In 1976, California artist Janet Kruskamp created this portrait of Irene from reference photos sent by a “longstanding Fairbanks resident.” Titled “Miss Irene,” the painting was one of Kruskamp’s extensive Across America collection for the bicentennial year. A year later, Ken and Ida Ryfogel, owners of Goldmine Jewelry and Gift Shop, purchased the original for display at their business, shipping it to Alaska, Ida said, because “the painting should be where Miss Irene is.” In May 1977, when Irene first viewed the original at Goldmine Jewelry, she exclaimed, “Glory be to gosh!” (Ryfogel Collection)

Hello Debra. So sorry for the long delay! We weren’t sure if someone had contacted you already. If not, the answer may be easy if you are on Facebook. There’s a group there for remembrances of Fairbanks and its people. We’ve heard from several people who own the print, and we’re betting if you post something of your interest on the group titled “You’re Probably from Fairbanks if You Can Remember…” It’s a wonderful print, and we wish you the best!
