It’s Quiet . . . but NOT

This time of year, Fairbanks is soaked with cold and dark, just like every Solstice. But progress has not ground to a halt! We’ve continued to present Irene’s story and encourage donations toward her statue. And we’re happy to report that our bank balance now exceeds $60,000, thanks to some generous givers who recently pitched in! Scroll through that long list of names on our SPONSORS page. I’m so impressed with businesses and individuals showing their love for Irene in this way. Remember, your gifts are tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt from our umbrella 501(c)3, the Snedden Family Foundation.

Would you please consider a gift that’s postmarked before the close of 2024? Thanks so much!

We can also tell you that our talented sculptor, Gary Lee Price of Idaho, is so enthused about getting started on this statue that he’s already playing with clay to create a miniature of what he has in mind for the Irene figure. We’ll share his “sketch” when he says so. Not long, we hope! This fall, Gary read Tricia Brown’s book, “The Queen of Fairbanks,” and was motivated decided to jump in! (Speaking of the book, Barnes & Noble in Fairbanks and in Anchorage have it in their system now, so there’s another option for purchasing your own copy. It’s gone to a second printing now!)

More good news: We are planning a special Birthday Bash for Irene this year to remember her special love for Olympia beer! Our host? Fairbanks’ hometown bar, the MECCA! (Thanks, Jody!) Irene’s birthday is January 29, and we’ve been shopping for some vintage Olympia mugs and flutes as prizes for party-goers! Check here for details on the party as the end of January approaches, but save the date! And we’ll see you at the MECCA!
